WKREC Fall Field Days

Western Kansas Fall Field Days are set for three locations in August

(August 1, 2024) Hays, KS—K-State agronomists and extension specialists invite you to the Western Kansas Fall Field Days. This series of three programs will take place in late August, with events in Hays on August 27, Tribune on August 28, and Garden City on August 29. Each event is open to the public, and a meal will be provided.

These events, centered on innovative and practical K-State research, address the unique needs of producers in western Kansas. Attendees can expect insight into the latest agronomic practices, including new drought-tolerant wheat varieties, weed management techniques, cover crop grazing in dryland systems, and much more tailored to our region's specific challenges and opportunities.

Registration is requested (but not required) to plan for an accurate meal count. Please register for your chosen location using the links provided below.

Hays – August 27, 10:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (CT)

  • Millet, sorghum and wheat varieties for dryland
  • Occasional tillage and grazing forages in wheat-sorghum-fallow rotation
  • Weed Management

Tribune – August 28, 8:30 a.m. (MT)

  • Nitrogen Management in Dryland Sorghum
  • Intensity of Dryland Rotations – How far can we go
  • Long-Term Dryland Rotation Studies and a potential new crop
  • Effects of No-Till, Reduced Till, and Occasional Dryland Tillage
  • Wheat viruses: prevention and expectations for the variety ratings and variety selection for 2025
